What is a Pre-Hire Candidate Assessment?
Making good hiring decisions about external candidates can be very difficult for employers. Our candidate assessments are designed to help objectify this process for professional and managerial candidates, where getting the right "fit" is absolutely critical. Each assessment involves an in-depth personal interview with a psychologist, supplemented with a battery of relevant personality and aptitude tests. Assessments can be conducted at LDW offices or at client sites, with both verbal feedback and comprehensive reports provided quickly. We provide detailed feedback on such characteristics as:

  • Intellectual capacity and problem-solving style
  • Emotional characteristics and coping style
  • Psychological needs and motivation
  • Insight and capacity for personal growth
  • Interpersonal and team behavior, fit with culture
  • Management and work style
  • Developmental areas and potential risks
Benefits of Pre-Hire Candidate Assessment
  • Standardizes the selection process and criteria.
  • Reduces the risk of "mis-hires".
  • Helps the organization identify high performers.
  • Reduces likelihood of turnover.
  • Reduces the risk of team conflict and lack of culture fit.
  • Helps hiring managers think through the decision process.
  • Provides insight and tools for development after a successful hire.
  • Through the process, hiring managers often learn new skills for interviewing and evaluating talent.

How does the Assessment process work?
We start by developing a Psychological Job Description for the position, in consultation with the hiring manager and other relevant people. This describes the ideal traits and characteristics a candidate should have for a particular position, with a given supervisor, within the broader organizational culture.

The candidate completes a customized test battery and then spends approximately one-half day with the psychologist, who conducts an in-depth interview. The interview can be conducted at the client site, at LDW offices, or at any mutually convenient location.

We provide a detailed phone feedback to the hiring manager, followed by a comprehensive written report describing the person's strengths, weaknesses and predicted "fit" with the position and the organization as a whole. The psychologist can help the hiring manager think through the implications of the feedback and consult on the merits of hiring or not. If the candidate is hired, the psychologist can provide developmental feedback to the individual with an emphasis on a successful integration, and establish the building blocks for a long-term Development Plan.
